A vulnerability was found in OpenEXR 1.2.2/1.6.1 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function Imf::PreviewImage::PreviewImage. Multiple integer overflows in OpenEXR 1.2.2 and 1.6.1 allow context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors that trigger heap-based buffer overflows, related to (1) the Imf::PreviewImage::PreviewImage function and (2) compressor constructors. The weakness was disclosed 07/31/2009 (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2009-1720. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
