Apple Mac OS X up to 10.5.0 CFNetwork information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

CFNetwork in Apple Mac OS X 10.5 before 10.5.8 places an incorrect URL in a certificate warning in certain 302 redirection scenarios, which makes it easier for remote attackers to trick a user into visiting an arbitrary https web site by leveraging an open redirect vulnerability, a different issue than CVE-2009-2062.

The weakness was disclosed 08/05/2009 by Clint Ruoho with Google Security Team (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-1723. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 40502 (Mac OS X 10.5.x < 10.5.8 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 116547 (Apple Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Security Update 2009-003 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2009-08-05-1)).

Upgrading to version 10.5.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (52418), Tenable (40502), SecurityFocus (BID 35954†), OSVDB (56846†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-23222†). The entries VDB-3959, VDB-4017, VDB-4132 and VDB-41542 are pretty similar. If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
