RealNetworks Helix Server and Helix Mobile Server 14.x before 14.3.x store passwords in cleartext under adm_b_db\users\, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information by reading a database.
The weakness was disclosed 04/02/2012 by Dmitriy Pletnev (Agent) with Microsoft Vulnerability Research (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at helixproducts.real.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with RealNetworks. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-1923 since 03/27/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
