The EXT4_IOC_MOVE_EXT (aka move extents) ioctl implementation in the ext4 filesystem in the Linux kernel before 2.6.32-git6 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a crafted request, related to insufficient checks for file permissions.
The issue has been introduced in 12/25/2008. The weakness was disclosed 12/12/2009 as Bug 544471 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2009-4131 since 12/01/2009. The exploitation appears to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
