Details
A vulnerability was found in Ruby on Rails (Programming Language Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Ruby on Rails 2.1 before 2.1.3 and 2.2.x before 2.2.2 does not verify tokens for requests with certain content types, which allows remote attackers to bypass cross-site request forgery (CSRF) protection for requests to applications that rely on this protection, as demonstrated using text/plain.
The weakness was presented 12/15/2009 (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2008-7248 since 12/11/2009. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
