A vulnerability has been found in NullSoft WinAmp up to 2.59 (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function in the library IN_MOD.DLL. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Multiple heap-based buffer overflows in IN_MOD.DLL (aka the Module Decoder Plug-in) in Winamp before 5.57, and libmikmod 3.1.12, might allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via (1) crafted samples or (2) crafted instrument definitions in an Impulse Tracker file. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
The weakness was published 12/18/2009 by Dyon Balding with Secunia Research (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2009-3995 since 11/19/2009. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
