Details
A vulnerability was found in Fahlstad WP-Forum up to 2.2 (Forum Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function remove_topic of the file wpf.class.php. The manipulation of the argument id with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in the WP-Forum plugin before 2.4 for WordPress allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via (1) the search_max parameter in a search action to the default URI, related to wpf.class.php; (2) the forum parameter to an unspecified component, related to wpf.class.php; (3) the topic parameter in a viewforum action to the default URI, related to the remove_topic function in wpf.class.php; or the id parameter in a (4) editpost or (5) viewtopic action to the default URI, related to wpf-post.php.
The weakness was published 12/18/2009 by Juan Galiana Lara (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2009-3703 since 10/15/2009. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed in Python. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:wpf.class.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 1.7.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
