Google Chrome before 17.0.963.83 allows remote attackers to bypass the Same Origin Policy via vectors involving a "magic iframe."
The weakness was disclosed 05/09/2012 by Sergey Glazunov (PinkiePie) with VUPEN as HT5278 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-3056 since 08/09/2011. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 04/27/2018). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58438 (FreeBSD : chromium -- multiple vulnerabilities (330106da-7406-11e1-a1d7-00262d5ed8ee)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120217 (Apple Safari Multiple Vulnerabilities (APPLE-SA-2012-05-09-2)).
Upgrading to version 5.1.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at trac.webkit.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
