A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 3.6.3 (Web Browser). This affects some unknown processing of the component Javascript Engine. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in the JavaScript engine in Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x before 3.5.10 and 3.6.x before 3.6.4, Thunderbird before 3.0.5, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.5 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via unknown vectors.
The weakness was disclosed 06/24/2010 by Igor Bukanov as Bug 561592 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-1202. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 47788 (CentOS 3 / 4 : seamonkey (CESA-2010:0499)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118158 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2010:0500, RHSA-2010:0501)).
Upgrading to version 1.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 9910.
