CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in LibTIFF 3.9.0/3.9.2 (Image Processing Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function OJPEGPostDecode of the file tif_ojpeg.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the properties that are required to process the data safely and correctly. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

The OJPEGPostDecode function in tif_ojpeg.c in LibTIFF 3.9.0 and 3.9.2, as used in tiff2ps, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure and application exit) via a crafted TIFF image, related to "downsampled OJPEG input."

The weakness was disclosed 07/02/2010 by Tom Lane as Bug 583081 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-2596. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72739 (Scientific Linux Security Update : libtiff on SL6.x i386/x86_64), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Scientific Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350764 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for libtiff: AL2012-2015-068).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (72739), SecurityFocus (BID 41295†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-26529†). The entries VDB-53896, VDB-53898 and VDB-53899 are pretty similar. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
