Red Hat Enterprise MRG up to 1.1.0 checkAlternate null pointer dereference

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Red Hat Enterprise MRG up to 1.1.0 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function SessionAdapter::ExchangeHandlerImpl::checkAlternate. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

The SessionAdapter::ExchangeHandlerImpl::checkAlternate function in broker/SessionAdapter.cpp in the C++ Broker component in Apache Qpid before 0.6, as used in Red Hat Enterprise MRG before 1.3 and other products, allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference, daemon crash, and cluster outage) by attempting to modify the alternate of an exchange.

The weakness was shared 10/18/2010 with Red Hat (Website). The advisory is available at rhn.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2009-5006 since 10/12/2010. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.
