A vulnerability was found in Oracle Java SE JRE up to 7 Update 4 (Programming Language Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component CORBA. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is integrity. Unspecified vulnerability in the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) component in Oracle Java SE 7 update 4 and earlier, 6 update 32 and earlier, 5 update 35 and earlier, and 1.4.2_37 and earlier allows remote attackers to affect integrity, related to CORBA.
The weakness was presented 06/12/2012 by Andrei Costin with Oracle as confirmed bulletin (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at oracle.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with Oracle. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-1719 since 03/16/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 59480 (CentOS 6 : java-1.6.0-openjdk (CESA-2012:0729)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119186 (HP-UX Running Java multiple Vulnerabilities (HPSBUX02805)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at oracle.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
