Details
A vulnerability has been found in Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (Application Server Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file 4.3.0.CP09 of the component Serialization. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The serialization implementation in JBoss Drools in Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (aka JBoss EAP or JBEAP) 4.3 before 4.3.0.CP09 and JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform 4.2 and 4.3 supports the embedding of class files, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted static initializer.
The weakness was shared 12/30/2010 (Website). The advisory is available at issues.jboss.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-3708 since 10/01/2010. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63962 (RHEL 5 : JBoss EAP (RHSA-2010:0938)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122368 (Red Hat Update for JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 4.3.0.CP09 Update (RHSA-2010:0938)).
Upgrading to version 4.3.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
