Multiple integer underflows in the x25_parse_facilities function in net/x25/x25_facilities.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.36.2 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (system crash) via malformed X.25 (1) X25_FAC_CLASS_A, (2) X25_FAC_CLASS_B, (3) X25_FAC_CLASS_C, or (4) X25_FAC_CLASS_D facility data, a different vulnerability than CVE-2010-3873.

The issue has been introduced in 03/20/2006. The weakness was disclosed 01/03/2011 by Dan Rosenberg as Bug 652517 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-4164. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1750 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 55069 (Ubuntu 6.06 LTS : linux-source-2.6.15 vulnerabilities (USN-1111-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Ubuntu Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165548 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update Linux Kernel (SUSE-SA:2011:004)).
