Details
A vulnerability was found in HP OpenView Network Node Manager 7.53 (Network Management Software) and classified as very critical. Affected by this issue is the function stringToSeconds in the library ovutil.dll of the file ovwebsnmpsrv.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Buffer overflow in the stringToSeconds function in ovutil.dll in ovwebsnmpsrv.exe in HP OpenView Network Node Manager (OV NNM) 7.51 and 7.53 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via large values of variables to jovgraph.exe.
The weakness was presented 01/13/2011 by SilentSignal with TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is shared for download at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-0262. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
