Details
A vulnerability was found in OTRS (Service Management Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
The S/MIME feature in Open Ticket Request System (OTRS) before 2.2.5, and 2.3.x before 2.3.0-beta1, does not properly configure the RANDFILE environment variable for OpenSSL, which might make it easier for remote attackers to decrypt e-mail messages that had lower than intended entropy available for cryptographic operations, related to inability to write to the seeding file.
The weakness was published 03/18/2011 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.otrs.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-7278. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
Upgrading to version 0.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (66483) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-30783†). Similar entries are available at VDB-56864, VDB-56863, VDB-56862 and VDB-56861. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
