Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in IBM DB2 (Database Software). Affected by this vulnerability is the function GET_WRAP_CFG_C / GET_WRAP_CFG_C2. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
IBM DB2 9.1 before FP12, 9.5 through FP9, 9.7 through FP6, 9.8 through FP5, and 10.1 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary XML files via the (1) GET_WRAP_CFG_C or (2) GET_WRAP_CFG_C2 stored procedure.
The weakness was shared 07/13/2012 by Martin Rakhmanov with Application Security as swg21600837 as confirmed knowledge base article (IBM Knowledge Base). The advisory is shared at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-2196 since 04/04/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62369 (IBM DB2 10.1 < Fix Pack 1 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19784 (IBM DB2 Multiple Vulnerabilities (IC84712, IC84748, IC84750 )).
Upgrading to version 10.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch IC84614 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at www-01.ibm.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
