A vulnerability was found in LibTIFF (Image Processing Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function ReadDirectory of the file tiffdump.c. Integer overflow in the ReadDirectory function in tiffdump.c in tiffdump in LibTIFF before 3.9.5 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted TIFF file containing a directory data structure with many directory entries.

The weakness was published 05/03/2011 by Tavis Ormandy as Bug 695887 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-4665. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 57221 (SuSE 10 Security Update : libtiff (ZYPP Patch Number 7474)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. Upgrading to version 3.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
