The management console in Symantec Web Gateway 5.0.x before 5.0.3.18 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary shell commands via crafted input to application scripts, related to an "injection" issue.
The weakness was published 07/20/2012 with Tenable Network Security as SYM12-011 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at symantec.com. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2976 since 05/30/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1202 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 25 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
