A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in Apple QuickTime up to 7.6.6 (Multimedia Player Software). This issue affects an unknown part. Heap-based buffer overflow in Apple QuickTime before 7.7 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via crafted STSS atoms in a QuickTime movie file.
The weakness was disclosed 08/03/2011 with Beyond Security's SecuriTeam Secure Disclosure (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.apple.com. Upgrading to version 7.6.7 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11218.
