Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 through 9 does not properly handle unspecified character sequences, which allows remote attackers to read content from a different (1) domain or (2) zone via a crafted web site that triggers "inactive filtering," aka "Shift JIS Character Encoding Vulnerability."
The weakness was presented 08/10/2011 as MS11-057 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-1962. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Applying the patch MS11-057 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com.
