A vulnerability was found in Opera Web Browser (Web Browser) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Small Window Download Dialog Box Display. Opera before 12.01 on Windows and UNIX, and before 11.66 and 12.x before 12.01 on Mac OS X, allows user-assisted remote attackers to trick users into downloading and executing arbitrary files via a small window for the download dialog, a different vulnerability than CVE-2012-1924.
The weakness was shared 08/02/2012 by Jordi Chancel as 1027 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared at opera.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-4143 since 08/06/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62301 (GLSA-201209-11 : Opera: Multiple vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks.
Upgrading to version 12.01 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
