A vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player 11.1.111.0/11.1.115.11/11.3.300.271 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown part. Adobe Flash Player before 10.3.183.23 and 11.x before 11.4.402.265 on Windows and Mac OS X, before 10.3.183.23 and 11.x before 11.2.202.238 on Linux, before 11.1.111.16 on Android 2.x and 3.x, and before 11.1.115.17 on Android 4.x; Adobe AIR before 3.4.0.2540; and Adobe AIR SDK before 3.4.0.2540 allow attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via unspecified vectors, a different vulnerability than CVE-2012-4163 and CVE-2012-4165.
The weakness was disclosed 08/21/2012 by Will Dormann (iDefense) with CERT/CC as APSB12-19 as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is available at adobe.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-4164 since 08/07/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 61624 (Adobe AIR 3.x <= 3.3.0.3670 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB12-19)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120441 (Red Hat Update for flash-plugin (RHSA-2012:1203)).
Upgrading to version 11.4.402.265(Windows, Mac) or 11.2.202.238(Linux) eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at get.adobe.com. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Microsoft Silverlight or Adobe Flash as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
