A vulnerability has been found in MediaWiki 1.18.4/1.19.1 (Content Management System) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component External Authentication Plugin. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in MediaWiki before 1.18.5 and 1.19.x before 1.19.2 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a File: link to a nonexistent image.
The weakness was presented 08/31/2012 as not defined mailinglist post (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.wikimedia.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-4377 since 08/21/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
