A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Windows 2000/Server 2003/XP (Operating System). It has been classified as critical. The Negotiate Security Software Provider (SSP) interface in Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash from null dereference) or execute arbitrary code via a crafted SPNEGO NegTokenInit request during authentication protocol selection.
The bug was discovered 02/19/2004. The weakness was shared 04/13/2004 by Chen Qing with NSFOCUS Security Team as MS04-011 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2004-0119 since 02/03/2004. The attack needs to approached within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1517 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
