A certain Java applet in the VPN downloader implementation in the WebLaunch feature in Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client 3.x before 3.0 MR7 on 64-bit Linux platforms does not properly restrict use of Java components, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted web site, aka Bug ID CSCty45925.

The weakness was disclosed 06/20/2012 by Cisco with Zero Day Initiative as cisco-sa-20120620-ac as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at tools.cisco.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-2496 since 05/07/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62045 (MS 2736233: Update Rollup for ActiveX Kill Bits (2736233)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
