A vulnerability was found in Curtis Galloway libexif 0.6.20. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function exif_entry_format_value of the file exif-entry.c. Buffer overflow in the exif_entry_format_value function in exif-entry.c in the EXIF Tag Parsing Library (aka libexif) 0.6.20 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code via crafted EXIF tags in an image.
The weakness was presented 07/13/2012 by Mateusz Jurczyk (Website). The advisory is available at ubuntu.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2814 since 05/19/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
