Use-after-free vulnerability in Google Chrome before 17.0.963.65 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via vectors related to the handling of class attributes.

The weakness was disclosed 09/19/2012 by miaubiz with Google as APPLE-SA-2012-09-19-1 as not defined posting (Website). The advisory is available at prod.lists.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-3041 since 08/09/2011. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58210 (FreeBSD : chromium -- multiple vulnerabilities (99aef698-66ed-11e1-8288-00262d5ed8ee)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120502 (Apple iTunes Prior to 10.7 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APPLE-SA-2012-09-12-1)).

Upgrading to version 6.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Google Android as an alternative.
