Details
A vulnerability was found in Wireshark up to 1.8.6 (Packet Analyzer Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the component GTPv2 Dissector. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
epan/dissectors/packet-gtpv2.c in the GTPv2 dissector in Wireshark 1.8.x before 1.8.7 calls incorrect functions in certain contexts related to ciphers, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a malformed packet.
The weakness was presented 05/24/2013 with Wireshark (Website). The advisory is shared at anonsvn.wireshark.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-3555 since 05/20/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
