Linux Kernel 3.0.63 cryptographic issue

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel 3.0.63 (Operating System). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-310. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

The IPv6 SCTP implementation in net/sctp/ipv6.c in the Linux kernel through 3.11.1 uses data structures and function calls that do not trigger an intended configuration of IPsec encryption, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information by sniffing the network.

The weakness was presented 09/25/2013 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-4350 since 06/12/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70059 (Fedora 20 : kernel-3.11.1-300.fc20 (2013-16794)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 195858 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Linux-lts-quantal Vulnerabilities (USN-2019-1)).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (87281), Tenable (70059), SecurityFocus (BID 62405†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-41651†). See VDB-10112 for similar entry. Be aware that VulDB is the high quality source for vulnerability data.
