A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in FFmpeg 0.5 (Multimedia Processing Software). Affected is the function smacker_decode_header_tree. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a remote code execution vulnerability. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The smacker_decode_header_tree function in libavcodec/smacker.c in FFmpeg before 0.10 allows remote attackers to have an unspecified impact via crafted Smacker data.
The issue has been introduced in 03/02/2010. The weakness was released 12/09/2013 by Gynvael Coldwind (j00ru) as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.videolan.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2011-3944 since 10/01/2011. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
