The smacker_decode_header_tree function in libavcodec/smacker.c in FFmpeg before 0.10 allows remote attackers to have an unspecified impact via crafted Smacker data.

The issue has been introduced in 03/02/2010. The weakness was released 12/09/2013 by Gynvael Coldwind (j00ru) as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.videolan.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2011-3944 since 10/01/2011. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1378 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72355 (Debian DSA-2855-1 : libav - several vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
