Lock Screen in Apple iOS before 7.1.2 does not properly enforce the limit on failed passcode attempts, which makes it easier for physically proximate attackers to conduct brute-force passcode-guessing attacks via unspecified vectors.
The weakness was disclosed 06/30/2014 by Erling Ellingsen (mblsec) with NESO Security Labs as HT6297 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Apple. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-1352 since 01/08/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 7.1.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
