Node.js 0.10.32 eval code injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Node.js 0.10.32. Affected by this issue is the function eval. This manipulation causes code injection. This vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2014-7192. Moreover, an exploit is present. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Node.js 0.10.32 (JavaScript Library). Affected by this vulnerability is the function eval. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Eval injection vulnerability in index.js in the syntax-error package before 1.1.1 for Node.js 0.10.x, as used in IBM Rational Application Developer and other products, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted file.

The weakness was disclosed 09/30/2014 by Cal Leeming as syntax-error potential for script injection as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at nodesecurity.io. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-7192 since 09/26/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.

It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading to version 1.1.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (96728), Exploit-DB (34090) and SecurityFocus (BID 70105†). Additional details are provided at github.com. The entries VDB-67718 and VDB-67716 are pretty similar. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
