Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Oracle Endeca Information Discovery Studio 3.1. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component Messages. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
OpenSSL before 0.9.8za, 1.0.0 before 1.0.0m, and 1.0.1 before 1.0.1h does not properly restrict processing of ChangeCipherSpec messages, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to trigger use of a zero-length master key in certain OpenSSL-to-OpenSSL communications, and consequently hijack sessions or obtain sensitive information, via a crafted TLS handshake, aka the "CCS Injection" vulnerability.
The weakness was released 10/15/2014 by Ivan Fratric (Felix) as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - October 2014 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at oracle.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-0224. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74348 (RHEL 5 / 6 : openssl097a and openssl098e (RHSA-2014:0626)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 185081 (HP-UX Running OpenSSL Multiple Vulnerabilities (HPSBUX03046)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
