A vulnerability was found in Apple Safari 5.1.7 (Web Browser). It has been classified as problematic. html/parser/XSSAuditor.cpp in WebCore in WebKit, as used in Google Chrome through 22 and Safari 5.1.7, does not consider all possible output contexts of reflected data, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass a cross-site scripting (XSS) protection mechanism via a crafted string, aka rdar problem 12019108.
The weakness was presented 08/02/2012 by Tushar Dalvi with Fundstone Labs as simple-cross-site-scripting-vector-that as not defined blog post (Blog). It is possible to read the advisory at blog.opensecurityresearch.com. The vendor was not involved in the public release. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-5851 since 11/08/2012. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
