CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird 16.0.1/16.0.2 (Web Browser). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the component SVG Text Handler. The manipulation as part of a CSS Style Sheet leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Mozilla Firefox before 17.0, Thunderbird before 17.0, and SeaMonkey before 2.14 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via vectors involving the setting of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) properties in conjunction with SVG text.

The weakness was presented 11/20/2012 by Jonathan Stephens (moz_bug_r_a4) as MFSA 2012-94 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with Mozilla. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-5836 since 11/05/2012. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62979 (FreeBSD : mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (d23119df-335d-11e2-b64c-c8600054b392)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165721 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security update for Mozilla Firefox (SUSE-SU-2012:1592-1)).

Upgrading to version 17.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at mozilla.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (80172), Tenable (62979), SecurityFocus (BID 56616†), OSVDB (87593†) and Secunia (SA51358†). bugzilla.mozilla.org is providing further details.
