Use-after-free vulnerability in the nsViewManager::ProcessPendingUpdates function in Mozilla Firefox before 17.0, Thunderbird before 17.0, and SeaMonkey before 2.14 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (heap memory corruption) via unspecified vectors.
The weakness was released 11/20/2012 by Abhishek Arya (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security as mfsa2012-105 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated with Mozilla. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-4217 since 08/08/2012. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165846 (SUSE Security Update to Firefox 17.0 and other Mozilla (openSUSE-SU-2013:0175-1)).
Upgrading to version 17.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at mozilla.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
