Use-after-free vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 through 10 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted web site that triggers access to a deleted object, aka "InjectHTMLStream Use After Free Vulnerability."
The bug was discovered 12/11/2012. The weakness was disclosed 12/11/2012 by Rosario Valotta as MS12-077 as confirmed bulletin (Microsoft Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Microsoft. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-4781 since 09/06/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63224 (MS12-077: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2761465)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100130 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update (MS12-077)).
Applying the patch MS12-077 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
