Details
A vulnerability was found in BMC Track-It! 11.3.0.355. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
SQL injection vulnerability in TrackItWeb/Grid/GetData in BMC Track-It! 11.3.0.355 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL commands via crafted POST data.
The weakness was disclosed 10/10/2014 by Pedro Ribeiro with Agile Information Security as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-4873 since 07/10/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Pedro Ribeiro and been published even before and not after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122726 (BMC Track-It! Multiple Security Vulnerabilities).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (96822), Exploit-DB (34924), SecurityFocus (BID 70268†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-46870†). The entries VDB-71918 and VDB-71916 are pretty similar. If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
