Use-after-free vulnerability in Mozilla Firefox before 18.0, Firefox ESR 17.x before 17.0.1, Thunderbird before 17.0.2, Thunderbird ESR 17.x before 17.0.1, and SeaMonkey before 2.15 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (heap memory corruption) via vectors related to Mesa drivers and a resized WebGL canvas.
The weakness was presented 01/08/2013 by Abhishek Arya (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security Team as MFSA 2013-02 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0763 since 01/02/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63463 (FreeBSD : mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (a4ed6632-5aa9-11e2-8fcb-c8600054b392)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166684 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update for MozillaFirefox (SUSE-SU-2013:0292-1)).
Upgrading to version 18.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
