The XBL.__proto__.toString implementation in Mozilla Firefox before 18.0, Firefox ESR 10.x before 10.0.12 and 17.x before 17.0.2, Thunderbird before 17.0.2, Thunderbird ESR 10.x before 10.0.12 and 17.x before 17.0.2, and SeaMonkey before 2.15 makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass the ASLR protection mechanism by calling the toString function of an XBL object.
The weakness was shared 01/08/2013 by Jesse Ruderman (regenrecht) with Mozilla Corporation as MFSA 2013-11 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-0748 since 01/02/2013. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a private exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
