Integer overflow in the JavaScript implementation in Mozilla Firefox before 18.0, Firefox ESR 10.x before 10.0.12 and 17.x before 17.0.2, Thunderbird before 17.0.2, Thunderbird ESR 10.x before 10.0.12 and 17.x before 17.0.2, and SeaMonkey before 2.15 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted string concatenation, leading to improper memory allocation and a heap-based buffer overflow.

The weakness was published 01/08/2013 by Sviatoslav Chagaev (pa_kt) with Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) as MFSA 2013-12 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0750 since 01/02/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63431 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox / xulrunner (CESA-2013:0144)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120795 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2013:0144)).

Upgrading to version 18.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
