A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Module::Signature up to 0.74. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Search Path Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a untrusted search path vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-426. Untrusted search path vulnerability in Module::Signature before 0.75 allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse module under the current working directory, as demonstrated by a Trojan horse Text::Diff module.
The weakness was shared 05/19/2015 by John Lightsey (Website). The advisory is shared at metacpan.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-3409 since 04/23/2015. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1574 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 83501 (Debian DSA-3261-1 : libmodule-signature-perl - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168410 (OpenSuSE Security Update for perl-Module-Signature (openSUSE-SU-2016:0163-1)).
Upgrading to version 0.75 eliminates this vulnerability.
