Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in cURL and libcURL up to 7.42.1 (Network Utility Software). This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component HTTP Basic Authentication. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability (Credentials). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
cURL and libcurl 7.40.0 through 7.42.1 sends the HTTP Basic authentication credentials for a previous connection when reusing a reset (curl_easy_reset) connection handle to send a request to the same host name, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information via unspecified vectors.
The weakness was presented 06/22/2015 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at curl.haxx.se. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-3236 since 04/10/2015. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
