win32k.sys in the kernel-mode drivers in Microsoft Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, and Windows RT Gold and 8.1 allows local users to obtain sensitive information from kernel memory via a crafted application, aka "Win32k Information Disclosure Vulnerability," a different vulnerability than CVE-2015-2382.
The weakness was presented 07/14/2015 as MS15-073 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-2381. The attack needs to be approached locally. The successful exploitation requires a single authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84747 (MS15-073: Vulnerabilities in Windows Kernel-Mode Driver Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (3070102)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91065 (Microsoft Windows Kernel-Mode Driver Elevation of Privilege Vulnerabilities (MS15-073)).
Applying the patch MS15-073 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com.
