A vulnerability was found in Apache HTTP Server 2.4.7/2.4.8/2.4.9/2.4.10/2.4.12 (Web Server). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function apr_brigade_flatten of the component Request Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The weakness was disclosed 07/15/2015 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at httpd.apache.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-3183 since 04/10/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84781 (FreeBSD : apache24 -- multiple vulnerabilities (a12494c1-2af4-11e5-86ff-14dae9d210b8)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 236998 (Red Hat Update for Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6.4.10 natives update on RHEL 7(RHSA-2016:2054)).
Upgrading to version 2.4.16 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
