SonicWALL Scrutinizer 9.5.2 Filters cross site scripting

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in SonicWALL Scrutinizer 9.5.2 (Firewall Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown function of the component Filters. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. This is going to have an impact on integrity.

The weakness was presented 02/11/2013 by Benjamin Kunz Mejri with Vulnerability Laboratory Research Team (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vulnerability-lab.com. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The successful exploitation requires a authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

A public exploit has been developed by Vulnerability-Lab and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading to version 10.1.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (24500), OSVDB (90215†) and Secunia (SA52169†). See VDB-7725, VDB-7726, VDB-7727 and VDB-7729 for similar entries. VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
