Details
A vulnerability was found in SonicWALL Scrutinizer 9.5.2 (Firewall Software). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component Mapping. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect integrity.
The weakness was shared 02/11/2013 by Benjamin Kunz Mejri with Vulnerability Laboratory Research Team (Website). The advisory is shared at vulnerability-lab.com. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a single authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Vulnerability-Lab and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at vulnerability-lab.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 10.1.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (24500), OSVDB (90216†) and Secunia (SA52169†). The entries VDB-7725, VDB-7726, VDB-7727 and VDB-7728 are related to this item. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
