A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Pidgin 2.10.6 (Messaging Software). This issue affects the function mxit_cb_http_read of the file libpurple/protocols/mxit/http.c. The MXit protocol plugin in libpurple in Pidgin before 2.10.7 might allow remote attackers to create or overwrite files via a crafted (1) mxit or (2) mxit/imagestrips pathname.

The weakness was presented 02/13/2013 with Coverity static analysis (Website). The advisory is shared at pidgin.im. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-0271 since 12/06/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
