A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Pidgin 2.10.6 (Messaging Software). Affected is the function upnp_parse_description_cb of the file libpurple/upnp.c. upnp.c in libpurple in Pidgin before 2.10.7 does not properly terminate long strings in UPnP responses, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) by leveraging access to the local network.
The weakness was shared 02/13/2013 by Coverity static analysis with Coverity static analysis (Website). The advisory is available at pidgin.im. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-0274 since 12/06/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
